Day 1 – Lima 

Bienvenidos! On the first day of your trip there’s a welcome meeting at 5 pm, at which time we will share important information and have time to connect.

Day 2 – Lima → Amazon Jungle

We will take a morning flight from Lima to Puerto Maldonado (Amazon Jungle). Then we will take a ground transport on a dirt road to the Tambopata River. There we will board a canoe and head upriver to our jungle lodge. Rooms are simple but comfortable, with flush toilets (en suite), showers (cold water only) and mosquito nets.

Once your family has settled into the lodge, we will take an introductory walk where we will learn about our environment and arrive at a lookout tower. You will have the option of going up to the top of the 50m (164 ft) top of the tower to observe the immensity of the rainforest.

Day 3 – Amazon Jungle

Today we will have a very early start with a boat ride to the Tambopata National Reserve. Tambopata has the highest concentration of avian clay licks in the world, including the world’s largest clay lick: the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick.  Here we will catch the sunrise along with some potentially amazing birdwatching.

In the afternoon, you will have an opportunity for some relaxation by the pool and a walk to see the giant Lupuna tree.

Day 4 – Amazon Jungle

Today we will have options, including a hike to a breaktaking canopy bridge, kayaking and taking time to breath in the fresh air on our final full day in the Amazon forest.

The night is dedicated for a thrilling boat ride where we will search for caimans, Central and South American reptiles that are related to alligators.

Day 5 – Amazon Jungle → Cusco

We will take an early afternoon flight to Cusco . Tonight’s evening is free for you to explore as you wish. You may choose to take a walk around the old city, visit Plaza de Armas or have dinner with your family. We recommend that you take it easy, as Cusco will be the highest altitude you will be visiting on this trip at about 3450m or 11,319ft.

Day 6 – Cusco → Sacred Valley 

After checking out of our Cusco hotel, we will take a drive to the awe-inspiring Inca fortress of Sacsayhuamán, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will see massive, precisely-cut stone walls that showcase the engineering brilliance of the Inca civilization. The location offers panoramic views of the city of Cusco, nearby archaeological sites, and Andean landscapes.

After a drive downhill from Cusco through the Sacred Valley, we will visit the Maras Salt Ponds and Moray, two of the Sacred Valley’s most unique and fascinating sites. This evening, we will check into our house in the Sacred Valley town of Urubamba, which is at an elevation of 2980 m (9420ft). At our accommodations, we will have a light dinner prepared, as it is easier to digest at higher altitudes.

Day 7 – Sacred Valley

Start the day with a short journey down the valley along the Urubamba River to the city of Ollantaytambo, exploring the impressive Inca ruins. Known for their grand terraces, temples, and ceremonial centers, this is one of the last living Inca towns, a site which combines rich history with breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley.  Families can enjoy the blend of history and culture while taking in the history of this archaeological treasure.

This evening it is important to rest, preparing for the next big day at Machu Picchu.

Day 8 – Machu Picchu

Today is a big highlight! We will start early in the morning boarding a train towards Aguas Calientes, a small town at the foot of Machu Picchu. The train ride will offer some unbelievable views of the Urubamba River. Then, we will take a short bus ride up the winding road to Machu Picchu. The ‘Lost City of the Incas’ was built around 1440 AD as a country retreat for Inca nobility, but there’s evidence that the land had been a sacred Inca site for much longer.  We will have a guided tour of the site, learning more about this special place. Make sure to take lots of photos!

Day 9 – Sacred Valley

After an unforgettable visit to Machu Picchu, enjoy a peaceful day of rest. Relax at the house, taking it easy or go for a walk to the cute town square or maybe play soccer.

In the afternoon, participate in a special Andean ceremony led by a Q’ero spiritual guide. This traditional ceremony connects you to the sacred energy of the mountains through offerings, prayers, and blessings. It’s a meaningful way to reflect on the journey and experience the spiritual side of the Andes.

Day 10 – Cusco

Today we will head back to the vibrant city of Cusco, where you’ll have the day of leisure to explore its charming streets, artisan markets, and colonial architecture. Today is the perfect day to go souvenir shopping and take plenty of family photos.

Day 11 – Cusco → Lima  

Following an early afternoon flight from Cusco to Lima, settle into our cozy house in the heart of Miraflores, one of Lima’s most vibrant and picturesque neighborhoods. Families can enjoy a leisurely walk along the scenic El Malecón coastal path, taking in stunning ocean views, or visit the friendly cats at Kennedy Park. The evening is perfect for sampling delicious Peruvian cuisine at nearby restaurants or simply unwinding and connecting back at the house.

Day 12 – Lima

Spend the final day relaxing at the cozy house in Miraflores before you fly home. Families are welcome to unwind, share memories, and enjoy their last few hours in Peru together. In the early afternoon, gather for a family-style BBQ, celebrating our adventure on this trip. With delicious food, and heartfelt goodbyes to a new extended family, promising to reconnect in the U.S.A.
