I’ve been an educator for over 20 years, and one thing I’ve learned is that some of the most powerful learning happens outside the classroom.
That’s one of the reasons I’m so excited about what we’re creating with ReconnectTours.
My partner, Sebastian, is from Peru and has been working as a tour guide for nearly a decade. He knows Peru—not just the places tourists visit, but the people, the land, and the culture that make the country special.
Together, we’re joining forces to create cultural and language immersion experiences designed specifically for students—from middle school through university.
We don’t want students to simply visit Peru. We want them to experience it.
That means practicing Spanish in real situations, meeting people, trying new things, getting outside their comfort zones, and having experiences that are meaningful to them as teenagers and young adults.
Additionally, we want to give students opportunities for authentic service learning. That means connecting with real local projects and students of their age. We are in the process of partnering with local schools and municipalities, to give students a chance to contribute something lasting to the places that they visit.
We know the power of travel. We understand the importance of service. Combining the two has the potential to create a powerful impact in the students who embark on this adventure.
